Hey there, I’m Brittany, and I homeschool my daughter.
I’ve been blogging for as long as she’s been alive, I actually started my first blog The Domestic Geek Blog shortly before Aliceana (known as Ali-Gator more often than not) was born. I ended up using the blog as an outlet after she was born with a lot of health issues including a really rare lung disease that kept her on oxygen for her first 5 months. We thought her treatment would last years instead of months and I was interested in sharing our story and maybe even another family that was raising an infant hooked up to an oxygen tank 24 hours a day. That blog is more about recipes now, and Aliceana’s traded in her lung disease for chronic sinus issues.
A few years ago we decided to homeschool Aliceana, I think she was 3 or 4 when we decided that it was the best route for us. Check out our 11 reasons why we chose homeschool for a very detailed post sharing exactly how we made the decision, some of the reasons might be surprising.
First we decided to unschool, read about how our family failed unschooling. Then we decided to add in some structured curriculum, unfortunately I’m too type-A not to have a structured curriculum. So now we do a mix of both. Of course it’s summer and we’re taking a short break (check out why we homeschool year round) so I’m second guessing our curriculum, because that’s what homeschooling parents do every summer.
I hope you enjoy this blog, our story, and the resources we share with you.
